Jonah Goldberg puts forth an excellent defense of extremism is today's NRO.
I have always disliked the idiots who are always pushing "moderate" and "centrist" approaches to problems. It is a weak argument. The argument Goldberg makes about extreme solutions points out that at least they are feasible. Both extreme positions on the war in Iraq are feasible. Either we get tough and discard the rules of engagement, or we simply admit defeat and withdraw. Currently we are trying to fight in a "centrist" manner: kill terrorist but try to avoid any bad press or civilian casualties.
I have always distrusted people who claimed they were moderate. What that person is bascially saying is "I do not have any real core beliefs or anything that I could not compromise on." To me that is untenable. It reeks of a life lived without passions.
Whittaker Chambers once said that a man needs a reason to live and a reason to die.
Would anyone die for the moderate position on anything?
I know most people turn to the moderate position out of a belief that they are doing the right thing, that they will take the best of the extreme positions, put them together and form a workable solution. What they end up with is a hodgepodge of contradictory ideas that turn into a bureaucratic nightmare.
For those advocates of moderation I have the following questions: Am I to be moderate in my pursuit of justice? Am I to be moderate in the pursuit of the Good and Truth? Am I to be moderate in doing what is right?

Finally a defense of extremism

Pedophiles to launch a political party
A coalition of Dutch perverts, criminals, and sickos have formed a political party.
The Charity, Freedom and Diversity party, also known as the NVD, wishes to legalize sex with children and animals, and a wants pornography on television.
Their agenda seeks to allow nudity in public, 16 year olds to prostitute themselves, and advocates for the complete legalization of drugs.
Somewhere Rousseau is standing and applauding.
This is what happens when you place unlimited freedom as the ultimate end to society. I am more a a Burkian lover of masculine liberty. There are simply somethings that are wrong.
Watch things like this will spread to all Western nations. When you abandon morality as a nation, and take up the ethic of "if it feels good do it," then you condemn your nation to death, hedonism, and weakness.
I am glad that the people of the Netherlands are mostly opposed to this party, but they are reaping what they have sown.

Chavez's “Bolivarian” revolution is faltering
Two candidates supported by the piece of human garbage that is Hugo Chavez are about to lose their elections.
It turns out his interference in local affairs is as unpopular with local electorate as the United States'.
President Uribe of Columbia, a fierce opponent of Chavez, is going to easily defeat his opponent.
Alan Garcia, the moderate leftist poised to defeat Chavez's ultranationalist Ollanta Humala, has accused Chavez of being "borderline crazy" and using "petro-imperialism...to wield undue influence over poorer countries."
This is fabulous. Chavez does not want to fight American imperialism, he wants to use the wealth and blood of the people Venezuela to fulfill his Bolshevik fantasies.
What the people of South America need is not socialism, it is the market. They need good government, not thieves who hide behind the rhetoric of "social justice".
Long live the free people of South America.

...and Dick Cheney shall lead them
It has been awhile since I, your humble WordBearer, have extolled the virtues of Dick Cheney.
Now we revisit the exploits of this demigod.
After a disasterous 2006 election, President Bush will be impeached and removed from office. Dick Cheney will become President. In a related story all newspaper reporters will commit suicide.
Dick Cheney will win the 2008 Republican primary. Pundits will attribute it to his promises to lower taxes, fight crime, and to refrain from blocking out the sun.
Madeline Albright goes missing after she accepts Cheney's invitation to go fishing
Dick Cheney's popularity increases after he opens fire on an Oscar Meyer WienerMobile
Cheney went to see the play "Pygmalion" in anticipation of devouring the protagonist
The original title of the popular relationship book "Women are from Venus; Men are from Mars" was originally titled "Women are from Venus; Men are from Mars; and Dick Cheney Will Kill them All"
Area 51 is also known as "Cheney's Playland"
He pierced his tongue with a rusty machete
Quebec once surrendered to Dick Cheney
Once a soda machine was out of the drink he wanted. He shot it twelve times.
The song "Killer Queen" was based on Dick Cheney's crossdressing phase

Knife culture overtakes Britain
Kiyan Prince, a promising young athlete, was stabbed outside of his school in northwest London school Thursday.
Why do I care? Because he is the latest victim of the "knife culture" overtaking Britain. Supposedly in 2004, 60,000 young people in Britain admitted to carrying knives.
See this is what is going to happen when you ban guns. People will just turn to other forms of weapons.
To tell you the truth there was a knife culture among the boys when I was growing up. All the young men in my small Texas town carried knives. Never in school, but in your everyday life you carried a knife. Never knew when you were going to need one. There were no stabbings that I can recall. I don't see the problem being a "knife culture" but a culture that treats life as cheap.
Here is how to solve this problem: teach children a basic respect for life and others.

X-Men 3: Brokeback Mutant
Sir Ian McKellen, star of stage, screen, and Lord of the Rings, was pushing for a gay love scene between Magneto and Professor X in the upcoming X-Men 3.
Why? What in the fantastic story between the good and evil mutants would compel someone to think "Hey you know what would go good here? Hardcore dude-on-dude action."
Any true X-Men fan would see this as blasphemy.
McKellen has been on a roll this week. On Wednesday he claimed that they Bible "should have a disclaimer in the front saying this is fiction."
He said this while on the Today Show to promote the steaming pile of week old ape droppings that is the Da Vinci Code.
I always thought the Da Vinci Code was the one that let you see all the people in Mortal Kombat naked.
McKellen is not going to win the hearts and minds of middle America with talk like this. This is just another example of Hollywood being out of touch.
The Smug cloud continues to gather.

Baseball and the Odyssey
Clark C. Griffith II's piece on the nobility of the greatest game on the planet is worth a read.
Griffith really gets the nobility of the game. I have been saying things like this for years.
Lets face it...baseball is the game of civilization. You are asking a man to defend himself with a bat by knocking a lethal projectile away from himself, then expect him to drop the bat and go out into the field without protection into the waiting arms of 9 men who are dedicated to him not making it home.
That requires a civilized man.
I hate seeing kids these days playing soccer. It is the type of game they play in Commie countries. Plus soccer makes you gay. There I said it.

How did I miss this??
A man with a fake leg and a deaf guy fighting.
How come things like this only happen when I am not around?
Bet it was a melange of incomprehensible screams and shouts about legs being in the Emperor's Pagoda.

Misery, debris, pile up in New Orleans
So apparently things are back to normal.
I'm sorry but my compassion for the victims of Katrina is nonexistent. Let me explain. I grew up in Southeast Texas. Shortly after Katrina, Hurricane Rita devastated my hometown. The people there did not complain, but went back to their homes, cleaned up, and did not scream to the media about discrimination.
The area is racially mixed, and both black and white families returned to the Golden Triangle and went on with their lives. The contrast with New Orleans is astounding.
The Dims who controlled New Orleans, and all of Louisiana, created a culture of dependency, corruption, and entitlement that is clearly on display every time a Katrina victim or Mayor Nagin gets in front of a camera.

...and then they came for the burritos
I have not idea where Drudge got this photo, but it is hilarious.
I suspect that it is photoshopped.
All I can say is that if it is real, then this is the worst argument ever made for illegal immigrants. I, the adept gringo, can make my own burritos.
I related news, the commie president of Bolivia has sent the army out to seize the nations gas fields.
He also threatened to evict six foreign companies unless they sign contracts giving the government control of the energy sector.
Under the agreement the companies will get to keep only 18% of the gas they produce, the rest going to the government oil concern.
Let me look into the future. First the companies will most likely leave. Therefore the state concern will not make the revenue it hoped, but will still become a piggy bank for Morales and his associates.
The people of Bolivia will still be as poor as they are now in ten years, maybe even poorer.
Once again socialism will destroy a nation.
